R36 Preservation Inc. is a nonprofit organization established to restore and preserve the 1964 St. Louis Car IRT R36 cars 9586 and 9587 on the New York City Subway's IRT #7 Flushing Route. These cars were built in 1964 for World's Fair service and we plan to eventually run charter, excursion and special event service with these cars as well as educating about their history and the New York World's Fair.
We also plan on advocating and helping see Main Line R36s 9542 and 9543 restored to service. These cars have significant historic value and are the "last of the line" - in both the IRT postwar SMEE cars and non-stainless NYCT cars.
Future long term plans may include acquisition of World's Fair GE R36s 9584 and 9585 upon their retirement from work service and their preservation and operation on a short line or museum operation.
